Church Norton, Guided Birdwatching 5th September 2020

September is typically one of the best months to see migratory birds. On a guided birdwatching trip to Church Norton early in the month a great mix of these travelling species were found.

Here are some pictures of two species that were seen, redstart and spotted flycatcher.

Redstarts (top two), Spotted Flycatcher (bottom). Photos taken by Les Phillips.

In addition to these, wheatears were plentiful along the shingle beach, and in with the wheatears was a lone whinchat. Warblers flitted around the bushes as they fuelled up on route to their wintering grounds, six different species were noted. Numbers of ducks and wading birds in the harbour had increased, a sign of things to come as we head towards the wintering season.
